Airlines Suspend Flights to Puerto Vallarta as Unrest Erupts in Mexico

Travelers were left stranded in Puerto Vallarta as violence broke out throughout the country following the killing of the cartel leader of one of Mexico’s most powerful criminal organizations.

Airlines suspended service to Puerto Vallarta and some to Guadalajara after violence broke out in the country following the killing of a major cartel leader. 

The U.S. State Department warned citizens staying in Puerto Vallarta and other parts of Mexico to shelter in place, urging them to “minimize unnecessary movements.” In Puerto Vallarta, rideshares and several businesses had suspended services. 

“Due to ongoing security operations & related road blockages & criminal activity, U.S. citizens in a number of locations in Mexico are urged to shelter in place, as U.S. government staff in several locations are doing and will cont
