When airlines such as Delta and Etihad opt to make investments in partner airlines around the globe instead of making acquisitions, which can trigger regulatory hassles, the investor carriers are going to be subject to economic turmoil in partners' domestic markets. That just goes with the territory.

We love the idea of a JetBlue and Virgin America merger, but loving the notion does not make it any more likely. Assuming that anyone will one day buy Virgin America, we believe it will be Delta. Go on, though, JetBlue. We would be delighted to be wrong.

Richard Branson made sure that his Virgin Atlantic oozed cool and shook the aviation industry out of a bland stupor. It's good to see that dynamic brand endure in an industry where many other iconic trailblazers have faded into memory.

Advances in travel tech always interest us, and the useless travel tech -- whether that be a group travel sharing service, another tours and activities app, or robots replicating humans -- always amuse us.

We appreciate this honest take from Arnold. It's not everyday we see a brand admit that it's not always going to get it right, but it's always going to forge ahead where others fear to tread.

If you're going to pay more, you expect more. These airlines really get that.
