India’s $72 Billion Wedding Season Is Reshaping Travel, Again

Skift Take

With every passing year, the budgets for Indian weddings are increasing as couples seek to make their big day more aligned to their personal tastes. Hotels, villas, palaces - all stand to benefit.

India's annual wedding rush is back. Over the 45-day window beginning November 1, the country expects 460,000 weddings, and an estimated INR 6.5 trillion ($72.3 billion) in spending, according to Indian trade body Confederation of All India Traders (CAIT).

While the number of weddings is slightly fewer than the 480,000 weddings last year, the total spending is higher, a clear sign that inflation, upgraded consumption, and a shift to higher-value formats are at play. Last year, 480,000 weddings generated INR 5.9 trillion ($65.6 billion).

Destinations Weddings: In its annual wedding report for 2025, Indian wed-tech platform WedMeGood noted that one in every four Indian weddings is now a destination wedding. And 90% of the destination weddings are hosted in the country itself.
