IndiGo Cancellations: Where Operations Stand Now and Airline’s Response to Aviation Regulator

While IndiGo expects normal operations later this week, the disruption highlighted how concentrated India’s domestic aviation has become. Investors and regulators may have to rethink capacity diversification as traffic keeps accelerating.

IndiGo said it operated more than 1,800 flights on Monday and restored full network coverage, marking a significant recovery after a weeklong disruption that led to mass cancellations across India.

“We have optimized our operations and managed to reduce the number of cancellations which are being notified to customers in advance, and our on-time performance (OTP) has also improved to 91% across the network,” an IndiGo spokesperson said on Monday.

The disruption began on Tuesday when the airline, which operates more than 2,300 flights a day and holds a dominant share of India’s domestic market, started cancelling flights due to scheduling issues.

Latest Update: Late Monday, India’s aviation regulator Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) said it has received IndiGo’s response to the show-cause notice issued over the large-scale operational disruptions. The airline submitted a joint reply signed by its CEO and chief operating officer on
