Conley's focus on the guest gives him an understanding of the peer-to-peer business that few others can lay claim to.

Chip Conley, Head of Global Hospitality and Strategy at Airbnb, spoke earlier this month at the Skift Global Forum.

“What I quickly saw when Brian Chesky approached me,” said Conley, “Was a company that if it was going to become a revolutionary company in the long-run, it was because it democratized, in a grassroots way, the idea of hospitality.”

Conley discussed his history as the founder and CEO of the Joie de Vivre hotel brand, and how he has taken what he learned about guests in traditional beds and used it to inform the Airbnb experience.
