It seems like Yahoo could do so much more with it given the fact that Yahoo puts almost nothing into marketing the site and yet it is one of the larger sites in the global travel industry.

Whether it's Flickr users or Facebook users, people often react negatively to changes. Give her credit, though, for trying to modernize some of Yahoo's -- shall we call them legacy -- services.

A shakeout has been looming among sites that track rewards miles and offers mileage-related flight services. MileWise's demise is the first among several other companies that will likely fade away.

Yahoo is hungry to buy small companies and absorb in the talent, unlikely the interest is in building out the Milewise brand and service as a standalone. None of the miles/points startups -- AwardWallet, Traxo, UsingMiles, Superfly -- have broken through yet, and Milewise is in the same general category.

Google's loss of Marissa Mayer, who choreographed the Zagat acquisition, to Yahoo won't slow big plans for the the Zagat integration into Google search.
