Alaska Airlines Makes Its Largest-Ever Boeing Order

Alaska is ambitious about transforming itself from a West Coast player to an international one. The carrier hopes a blockbuster Boeing order will help it reach that goal faster.

Alaska Airlines announced Wednesday it is making a blockbuster order with Boeing — the biggest order in its history — as it looks to expand its network internationally. 

The carrier is ordering 105 Boeing 737-10s and five new 787-10s, exercising all its previous options for the 787. Alaska said it also secured the rights for 35 additional 737-10s. 

Part of the order is meant to replace some of Alaska’s aging aircraft, and the widebodies will help Alaska further expand into Europe and Asia. Alaska said the five additional 787s will allow it to operate at least 12 long-haul destinations from Seat
