The list has shifted as travelers are now choosing cheaper destinations, but some citizens are still willing to pay top dollar to spend the American holiday in iconic cities like New York and Chicago.

Hotwire.com announced the top 10 most popular destinations that travelers are visiting this Labor Day weekend. This year, many are opting to travel to off-season destinations where they can get more for their money, but top leisure markets, like New York City and Boston, still reign supreme. No matter where Americans are looking to travel for the Labor Day weekend, this list is filled with destinations that offer great value-on-the-dollar for experiences, as well as great weather and an abundance of entertainment options.

The 10 most popular Labor Day weekend destinations and average prices are based on hotel bookings made on Hotwire.com between June 15 and July 31, 2012 for travel between August 30 and September 4, 2012.
