Trip.com to Sell Event Tickets on Its Platform: Here’s Why That Matters

Skift Take

Events are increasingly becoming the starting point for a trip rather than an add-on. That shift is reshaping how online travel agencies pull event tickets into the main booking flow instead of keeping them on the sidelines.

Trip.com Group will now sell tickets for major concerts, sports, and theatre events directly on its platform, through a new partnership with Dublin-based ticketing company Coras.

The agreement gives Trip.com access to primary inventory for music events, top European football matches, U.S. leagues like Major League Baseball and Major League Soccer, as well as West End and Broadway productions. Customers will see venue pricing and live availability without being sent to external sites.

“The Taylor Swift Eras tour did more business development for Coras than we ever could,” Coras CEO Mark McLaughlin told Skift. “It was the industry turning point in realizing that events are a huge driver of travel and often the first product that the customer buys. That presents an opportunity to upsell flights, hotels and transfers.”
