Marriott’s City Express Brand to Debut in Asia Pacific: First Stop, Japan

Every major hotel group wants a slice of the midscale pie, and for good reason: It’s where most of the action will be in Asia Pacific for the foreseeable future.
Marriott International Monday announced it would introduce its City Express by Marriott brand to Asia Pacific, with the first hotels coming up in Japan in 2026. The hotel group said it has signed an agreement with Pacifica Hotels G.K. to convert two existing Osaka properties, which will reopen after full renovations as City Express by Marriott Osaka Namba South and City Express by Marriott Osaka Shin-Imamiya.
The launch will mark the Asia Pacific debut of the City Express brand, which Marriott describes as offering “reliable, modern and accessible accommodations” for "value-conscious travelers."
“City Express by Marriott is well positioned to complement Marriott’s growing midscale portfolio in Japan and contribute meaningfully to Osaka’s thriving tourism landscape,” said Shawn Hill, Marriott’s chief development officer for Asia Pacific (excluding China).
Together, the two Osaka hotels will feature about 243 rooms and occupy well-connected
