The Top 10 Spending Categories for Business Travelers: International Vs. U.S.

U.S. is still not that bad in business travel expenses overall, compared some of the fast growing Asian cities, some European countries and Australia.

All this week we've been highlighting business travel trends from a new report by Concur, the annual "Expense IQ Report" on trends data around business travel habits, based on the $50 billion expense transactions per year that it processes. Today, the last set of data and charts, this time on the top 10 spending categories for business travelers, across airlines, hotels,  dining and others.

First, for United States. airfare's share of overall business travel spend decreased slightly, but still the biggest chunk. The average transaction amounts increased most for hotels, training and telecom. They were down in 2012 for meetings, dining and car rental.

For international travel spend categories, average transaction amounts outside the U.S. generally declined, with dining, car rental and ground transport falling the most. Among the top categories, airfare fell the least. Only rail showed an increase.
