A new type of top cities list from the Economist Intelligence Unit

Skift Take

Vancouver has lost its spot at the top of the list (and in the top 10 overall, too) as the EIU re-jiggers its ranking system to announce a new set of livable cities, this year topped by Hong Kong.

The Economist Intelligence Unit has published city rankings for many years. As with any city ranking there is always debate about which factors make a city most liveable. Working with Buzzdata we opened up our city ranking and worldwide cost of living data to the online data community to ask them to create a new city index which included factors they deemed important in deciding which cities are the best.

The winning entry added data on population density, air quality, connectivity and green space, amongst others, to create the best city index.
