A franchisee of Hilton and IHG has temporarily closed its two hotels in St. Paul, highlighting a challenge that may face other hoteliers nationally in coming months.

Two downtown St. Paul hotels franchised under Hilton and IHG remained temporarily closed Tuesday, days after protests erupted over federal immigration agents staying at some Minneapolis-area properties.

The closures of the InterContinental St. Paul Riverfront and the DoubleTree by Hilton St. Paul Downtown highlighted the tough decisions some franchisees have had to make amid the politically charged situation.

Mille Lacs Corporate Ventures, the business arm of the indigenous tribe Mille Lacs Band of Ojibwe, runs the franchised hotels. It said it had temporarily stopped bookings from all travelers, not just those of IC
