Sharjah Targets Hotel and Tourism Carbon Emissions Reductions

Skift Take

Sharjah is betting on eco-tourism to boost its appeal. Gas remains part of the mix, but with more renewables coming online and efforts to decarbonize supply chains, the emirate could offer the industry a path to lower-emission operations.

Sharjah, the third largest emirate in the UAE, has launched a platform to connect hotels with emissions-reduction suppliers as part of a broader eco-tourism push.

Called Sustain Sharjah, it offers tourism partners free access to practical environmental solutions and supplier networks.

One example:  The Coral Beach Resort Sharjah has installed a water plant that produces and bottles water on-site using reusable glass bottles, eliminating plastic waste from its beachfront property.
