The new normal in domestic ticket change fee: $200

Fee isn't the new normal, eye-popping fee is. Expect all other U.S. airlines to jump on this sooner or later.

US Airways today upped its fee by $50 to $200 for making changes to tickets within U.S./Canada. The change showed up on US Airways' website this morning...."We've increased some of our change fees for customers who purchase nonrefundable tickets yet need to adjust their travel plans. This increase only applies to new ticket purchases."

From the new rules: "Domestic flight changes are subject to a $200 fee and transatlantic/transpacific flight changes are subject to a $250 - $300 fee, in addition to any difference in fare."

United quietly upped its domestic change fee last week, also increasing its fee by $50 to $200.
