Jordan's new tourism push around Lawrence Of Arabia's 50th anniversary HD re-release

Skift Take

Jordan's the only country in that region that's safe enough these day. It has been making a concerted push since Arab Spring, especially in digital arena, to make people aware of that fact.

VisitJordan, among the most progressive of country tourism boards, has launched a new campaign and a microsite, riding on the coattails of 50th anniversary of David Lean’s epic Lawrence of Arabia. The classic film has been restored in HD and just re-released, starting with UK and Ireland last week.

The tourism push involved working with several tour operators, promoting tours that walk in the footsteps of T.E. Lawrence, the eccentric British officer who united the Arab desert tribes against the Turks in World War 1. Wadi Rum, also called as the Valley of the Moon, where the movie was shot, is already an established film tourism destination for aficionados of the movie.
