Workers at Miami International Airport Call Out Unsafe Working Conditions

Workers at Miami International Airport are claiming unsafe working conditions in the terminal that services most international flights.

Employees representing three subcontractors said at a Miami-Dade County Commission meeting on Thursday that many labor violations exist in Terminal and Concourse D, ranging from high levels of carbon monoxide, faulty baggage trucks and lack of ear plugs and gloves.

The Miami Herald reported that employees previously voiced concerns about lack of a break area and suitable drinking water, but both of those have been fixed.

Workers have also raised issues with benefits, such as being unaware of their health insurer, no paid overtime or time off and wage irregularity, where hours are shaved off. Representatives of Ultra Aviation Services and Eulen America said during the meeting that those benefits are provided.
