Fire at COP30 Halts UN Climate Negotiations During Tourism Talks

It's not clear whether COP30 will go on, but it's a blow for the government of Brazil, which was hoping for a climate agreement to come out of the talks.

The UN global climate talks came to a standstill Thursday after a fire broke out at the COP30 venue in Belém, Brazil, forcing thousands of delegates to evacuate just as negotiations were scheduled to conclude.

Skift was at the venue reporting on the first of two dedicated days to tourism, where ministers and some representatives from the travel industry were discussing climate change and how the tourism and travel industry is responding to it.
