Marriott Terminates Its Sonder Partnership After ‘Default’

Skift Take

Marriott had given Sonder a lifeline in August 2024 by offering to list the troubled brand's apartment-style rooms on its site and app. Sonder has struggled to hold on.

Marriott has ended its licensing agreement with Sonder Holdings after the apartment-hotel operator defaulted on the contract, the hospitality giant said Sunday.

Sonder's site no longer took reservations. Many internet forums have multiple reports of guests being asked to leave by early Monday, and no new guests being accepted.

The termination will reduce Marriott's net rooms growth forecast for 2025 to approximately 4.5%, the company said. That was below the "approaching 5%" rate Marriott had provided during its November 4 earnings.
