Covid-era staycations were not just temporary for Indian travelers. They showed Indians a new way of traveling where accommodation is the preference, not an after-thought.

For Indian travelers, hotels themselves are becoming the destinations, online travel company Booking.com has noted in its latest India-focused travel trend report “How India Stays.” 

The company noted, “Hotels, villas, and homestays are no longer backdrops, but part of the story.” It stated that as the economic value of an accommodation has shifted from commodities to services and now to experiences, room is no longer the only product for hospitality companies. 

Speaking to Skift, Santosh Kumar, regional manager for South Asia at Booking.com, said, “Even from a trip inspiration standpoint, we’re seeing a lot of travelers today choose a certain destination keeping in mind the specific accommodation that they want to go to.” He added that Indians are spending a considerable amount
