Ibiza Floods: Impact on Travel and Tourism

Skift Take

The floods in Ibiza are a reminder that even world-class tourist destinations can see their infrastructure buckle under extreme weather.

Two properties used by tour operators in Ibiza have been damaged in the severe floods that struck the island on Monday and Tuesday, with hundreds of tourists evacuated as torrential rain caused landslides, roof collapses, and widespread disruption to flights and ferries.

The four-star Vibra Tropical Garden Apartments, included in TUI and Jet2holidays’ programmes, was hit by a landslide that forced the evacuation of over 200 guests, the Ibiza fire service said, adding that it dealt with over 200 other incidents during the floods.

Meanwhile, videos appeared to show that part of the roof at the Pacha Hotel, near Ibiza Town’s marina, collapsed.
