Marriott to Let Indian Shoppers Earn Bonvoy Points at Flipkart: Exclusive

India's e-commerce boom will also fuel a new stream of travelers. The Marriott-Flipkart tie-up is a bid to own that upgrade moment, to be the first choice when shoppers book their first branded upscale stay.

Marriott on Wednesday will announce a partnership with Flipkart, the Walmart-backed Indian e-commerce platform, executives at both companies told Skift.

Loyalty members of the two companies will earn Bonvoy points when buying on Flipkart, and can convert Flipkart SuperCoins into hotel points.

“We've always had to wait for someone to book a hotel room to start engaging with the program… Now with Marriott Bonvoy partnering with Flipkart, we start to become a little bit more part of their everyday transaction,” John Toomey, chief commercial officer, Asia Pacific excluding China, Marriott International, told Skift.
