The Greening of Travel: Read the New Magazine

Skift Take

Check out our magazine to learn how travel must embrace its responsibility to the world. We offer eight tenets to help you make it happen.

At this year's Skift Global Forum, we chose to focus many of our important discussions on travel's responsibility to the world. Issues of climate change, overtourism, and protecting the environment are often swept under the rug in travel. So we asked executives in airlines and hospitality, online travel agencies and destination marketing groups, and more the hard questions about what role they and the entire industry need to play to protect our planet.

As part of the Forum, Skift released a magazine featuring an essay that explores the greening of travel. We also offered eight tenets of embracing the responsiblity, a list every travel executive should commit to memory.

Senior Enterprise Editor Andrew Sheivachman offered this stark view in an opening essay: "Serious change is necessary. Instead of designing marketing initiatives to assuage the fears of travelers, leaders across travel need to help build an industry defined by a commitment to green practices. Business as usual, or a rush to make money before the sector is truly disrupted by environmental or political issues, may very well doom global travel in an era of nationalism, nativism, and political polarization."
