Skift Take

Families still lack a trusted and useful travel guide for the digital age, and perhaps startups like Winnie that want to make it easier to find activities and places on the go will make family travel more enjoyable for the parents who plan everything.

fundingroundupEach week we create a roundup of travel startups that have received or announced funding that week. The total amount raised this week among companies we tracked was $5.5 million.

Here are two companies that announced they raised funding this week. You can see previous roundups here.

>>JustRide, a car rental company based in Mumbai, India, raised a $3 million venture round from new investors IT-Farm, Justin Kan, Kima Ventures, Paul Buchheit, Qasar Younis, SMC Holdings, and Susa Ventures. This brings the company’s total funding to $6.4 million since it was founded in 2015. The company lets car owners rent out their cars to drivers and is so far live in Mumbai and Bengaluru.

>>Family travel planning site Winnie raised a $2.5 million seed round from new investors #Angels, BBG Ventures, Deep Fork Capital, Flight Ventures, Homebrew, KPCB Edge, and Ludlow Ventures. This puts the San Francisco-based company’s total funding at more than $2.5 million but an earlier round was undisclosed. The site helps parents find family friendly activities to do in U.S. cities while traveling.

With data on over a million locations so far, Winnie helps parents find points of interest and new places to play like the best parks, playgrounds, and libraries nearby. The mobile app also helps parents search for family-friendly restaurants with changing tables, kids menus, highchairs, locate the nearest restroom and nursing station and add stories about the places you visit and keep track of where you travel with your kids.
