Skift Take

All tours are not created equal, and Wade's approach actually tries to avoid sameness.

Darrell Wade, CEO of Intrepid Group, spoke at the Skift Global Forum about reinventing the business of experiential tours, which explored how tours and activities have evolved to include authentic experiences travelers demand and expect.

In his conversation with Skift Co-Founder Jason Clampet, Wade talked about the difficulties of scaling — this spring he ended his relationship with TUI for Adventure.com — and different priorities travelers have when they’re seeking experience versus consistency. “Hotels spend an awful lot of time and money to make sure the experience is the same as the last time they were there and that it’ll be the same the next time they’re there,” Wade said. “We’re almost the exact opposite.”
