Skift Expands Into Meetings, Luxury Travel, Cruises, Tour Operators and Travel Agents
Skift Take
You have been asking us for more coverage across more sectors of the travel industry, and we have listened.
Skift has covered the travel brands that touch consumers directly since our launch three years ago, but beyond this focus on the Marriotts and the Expedias and the Southwests we have only examined other industry sectors from time to time. This has primarily been a function of resources, as well as the focus that is necessary at a boutique media information company.
But as we have grown, so have the requests for us to bring the type of coverage Skift is currently known for to other parts of the travel industry. We are now starting in that direction by expanding our coverage into meetings and conventions, luxury travel, cruise lines, tour operators, and travel agents.
We won’t scale overnight in these sectors, but this is the start of us building towards more thorough and insightful coverage in these areas. And like our coverage in hospitality, destination management, passenger experience, online technology, marketing, and branding, we will continue to be singularly focused on the needs of our readers — the travel’s industry’s largest audience to be found online, in print, or combined.
To make this happen, we have made three new editorial hires in the last month, and we are excited to have them on board as fellow Skifters:
- Greg Oates, a long-time Skift freelance contributor, joins us full time as Senior Editor, and moving beyond his traditional stronghold of hospitality and tourism and leading our coverage in meetings and luxury travel.
- Andrew Sheivachman, previously the Managing Editor of Travel Market Report, joins Skift to lead our cruises, agents, and packaged travel ecosystem coverage.
- Alexandra Petri, previously the Travel Editor at The Daily Meal, joins Skift to pick up our hospitality, tourism, and social media coverage.
