Hamburg hotel created for 'next generation' travelers wins European design award

Skift Take

Compact budget-friendly designs like the Superbude and CitizenM are trending because of their minimal rooms, spacious group areas, and attention to connectivity and sustainability.

A kitschy, retro-tinged hotel in Hamburg took the award for European hotel design of the year as well as prizes for its public area and bedrooms & bathrooms...The Superbude 2 hotel has built on the previous success of hotels like CitizenM and developed its own personality and design language. Delivered as a complete package, Superbude 2 exudes clever use of materials - old and new, and spaces that appeal to the next generation of travellers, all delivered on a relatively tight budget.

The European Hotel Design Awards were created 15 years ago to recognise design and architectural excellence. This year organisers received over 200 submissions of projects completed between June 1, last year and May 31.
