Singapore needs to figure out what its core selling proposition is. Competition for tourists in the region is fierce, and the country has to move beyond its current bland and generic marketing, to market deeper and more unique experiences.

Singapore is constrained in all possible ways: as a tiny nation, it has limited labor force and limited attractions, and it is in a fiercely competitive and rapidly growing tourism neighborhood. Hence its hope on big spending visitors than raising volume.
Finding a balance between promoting a destination as a playground for big-spenders and as a place steeped in history and culture is a balance that will ultimately draw more visitors.

Asia as a whole might be celebrating the rapid growth of tourism in the region, but Singapore is seeing the growth in its visitor numbers slowing, and is grappling with how to thrive in that more dour environment.
