Just as challenging as it is for Airbnb to offer more hotel-like options, it seems in some ways even more daunting for hotel companies to start offering more Airbnb-like accommodations.
We know what you're all thinking: Can Onefinestay be saved? Was AccorHotels' decision to buy a private rental business the right move? Or should it have partnered with one instead?
The first step to making things right is to admit things are wrong, followed by figuring out how to make things right again. At this point, we're not sure we know how AccorHotels wants to fix its problems with Onefinestay and John Paul, but at least it admits something is wrong.

Uh oh! Is this the start of Accor's ambitious acquisition strategy unraveling or simply a bump in the road?
By the time we publish this, we wouldn't be surprised if AccorHotels has already purchased or invested in another business.
Marriott — and well, any company wanting to get into private accommodations — should heed the advice of AccorHotels CEO and pay close attention to how they manage those rentals and how they can leverage their existing hospitality labor force to do it.
If Airbnb is successful with Airbnb Plus, it will ensure that alternative accommodations are no longer seen as an alternative. But making it a success will be easier said than done.
AccorHotels' acquisitions over the last couple of years aren't money makers yet but that's not to say they never will be. CEO Sébastien Bazin is still intent on playing a very different game than the other big hotel companies.
