This looks like a marriage of convenience for the carriers. Both are struggling, as is the wider Icelandic tourism industry. We'll have to wait and see whether one is better than two.
Iceland should be a good air market right now. But increased competitive capacity is putting major pressure on Icelandair. The carrier's new CEO is going to have to find a way to get the airline back on track.

If they can't beat the online travel companies, airlines might as well try to copy those companies' slickest moves. A couple of carriers are testing the display of flights on rival airlines in an attempt to prevent consumers from clicking away to shop elsewhere.

Kudos to Icelandair for trying something new. But since the Facebook Messenger platform is clunky, most travelers should probably stick with the airline's website.

Deal seekers, rejoice. New Yorkers now have a new cheap way to reach Europe. But don't expect it to be comfortable.
Yes, it’s a gently skewed sales tool for Icelandair. Of course, it is! But it’s still gorgeous. We hope it will inspire other airlines to go make a better one. They can start right now.

Travel brands selling vacations and luxury suites have a significantly easier job selling consumers on their products than these more stark service providers but adding a light perspective to what can be a tedious form of travel is a good start.
