Norwegian loads Android apps into Dreamliner entertainment system

Norwegian passengers flying around Europe this summer on the airline's Boeing 787 Dreamliner will be able to access Android apps pre-loaded into its onboard entertainment system in seatbacks.

Developed with entertainment-system and technology partner Panasonic Avionics, Norwegian claims the launch of an Android-powered entertainment system is a "first."

Passengers can use the Android apps to choose movies, listen to music, play games, and buy snacks and drinks, the airline says.

Norwegian put its first Dreamliner into service this month, and the aircraft will operate in Europe for the summer, and then Norwegian will add long-haul routes between Scandanavia, Asia and the U.S.

The airline's entire Dreamliner fleet will be outfitted with the Android apps pre-loaded into Norwegian's seat-back entertainment system.
