Overseas Travel to the U.S. Slumps for 8th Straight Month

The U.S. recovery in inbound travel is stalling, and policy, pricing, and perception are now compounding the problem.

International travel to the U.S. fell for the eighth straight month in December, with overseas visitation dropping 1.3% to 3.2 million, according to data released Monday by the National Travel and Tourism Office.

That marked a modest improvement from October and November, when visitation fell 3.1% and 3.5%, respectively. But inbound tourism continues to trail pre-pandemic levels, with December arrivals reaching just 92% of 2019 volume.

For the year, overseas visitation fell 2.5% from 2024, according to the NTTO.
