Indians Book Earlier and Spend More This Winter

India’s winter travel is growing in both volume and maturity. Earlier bookings, higher spend on experiences, and strong short-haul demand suggest a more confident, value-conscious traveler.
India’s winter travel season is closing out the year on a surge, with travel platforms reporting sharp increases in demand across domestic, regional, and international routes. The trend is notable not only for its volume but for how Indian travelers are planning: earlier, more purposefully, and with a clear focus on experiences.
Online travel company Ixigo reported a 40-45% increase in bookings for international flights compared to last year, while domestic searches for December rose 45-50% compared to November. This demand stretches across destination types, from Himalayan escapes to beach resorts and short-haul hotspots across Asia.
Experiential travel is playing a central role. PickYourTrail noted a 7-8% increase in interest for winter-wonderland escapes, think Christmas markets and snow destinations.
