Taking a port city’s big attractions from land to sea is easy in a city like Miami, and it's a strategy cruise lines can adopt in more ports to engage residents and get them on more ships.

Major cruise lines are finding new ways to tap the expertise of local companies and personalities to enhance their shipboard guest offerings.

Royal Caribbean International, for example, formed a partnership with James Beard Award-winning Miami chef Michael Schwartz of Michael's Genuine Food & Drink.

Since October Schwartz has been creating specialty, multi-course tasting menus, which integrate produce and meat sourced from South Florida farmers for 150 Central Park — Oasis of the Seas' fine dining restaurant.
