China Eastern Becomes First Chinese Carrier to Launch Global In-Flight Wi-Fi

Wi-Fi suppliers are, quite literally, in a space race to win the Wi-Fi market. New satellites in orbit and due to launch will allocate greater bandwidth, and deliver higher speeds, to meet the needs of airlines and their customers alike. While there is still a way to go before in-flight Wi-Fi is ubiquitous, we’re getting closer every day.

China Eastern Airlines has become the first Chinese airline to offer high-speed Wi-Fi connections on international flights, through the installation of Panasonic Avionics eXConnect connectivity system and a partnership with China Telecom Satellite. The connection will launch on the airline’s latest Boeing 777-300ER aircraft, with planned roll-out across the airline’s international network and domestic service. In-flight Wi-Fi will be available on 20 of China Easternâ
