Virgin Australia rolling out Android tablets for in-flight entertainment

Skift Take

Remains to be seen if airline customers take to the less-cooler, not-iPad option -- especially if they're not used to the UI and don't want to deal with the learning curve over the short flight times.

Virgin Australia will begin fitting out the majority of its aircraft with Samsung's Galaxy Tab tablets for in-flight entertainment this month, ahead of Qantas' own rollout of Apple iPads on a limited number of its older Boeing 767s. Virgin trialled the devices over a one-week period in April for its business class, and now rolling out domestically and internationally.

It will be free for business class, and for others, will be available as a priced option. For now, it wil be preloaded with entertainment content, but late this years will move to wifi-streaming.
