Aer Lingus officials beg European officials to prohibit Ryanair's third attempted takeover

It’s questionable whether the Heathrow bid would work, or if EU’s antitrust laws would allow Ryanair to control 70% of Irish air travel, even with Aer Lingus' inept handling both of Ryanair's bid and its business operations the last few years.

The board of Irish airline Aer Lingus is trying to thwart the latest advances of Ryanair.

On Tuesday, Aer Lingus’s chairman, Colm Barrington, urged shareholders to reject Ryanair’s takeover bid of 694 million euros, or $852 million. In a letter to investors, Mr. Barrington said the offer undervalued the Irish carrier and that competition authorities could block a tie-up between the two airlines.
