Dubai Turns to New Visitors and Events to Ride Out Iran War Tourism Slump

Dubai Tourism is counting on a busy events calendar, new visitor categories, and lessons learned during the 2008 global financial crisis and Covid to ride out the demand shock triggered by the Iran war.
Issam Kazim, CEO of Dubai Corporation for Tourism and Commerce Marketing, told the first briefing of the year for industry stakeholders on Wednesday that prior crisis experience has enabled a “constant communication loop” with industry partners.
The government offered a support package in two tranches to protect business continuity across the sector: Dh1 billion ($272.5 million) in April covering fee deferrals and liquidity measures. A second tranche of Dh1.5 billion ($409 million) in May extended relief to hotels, event operators, retailers, and SMEs.
