The partnership comes as Australia-based Intrepid targets growth in the U.S., where REI has nearly 200 stores and 25 million members.
Less than a year after eliminating its adventure travel business, outdoor retailer REI Co-op is reentering the experiences space through a partnership with tour operator Intrepid Travel.
Starting in January, the companies will launch two collections of adventures led by local tour leaders with discounts for REI members.
The partnership, shared exclusively with Skift, marks Intrepid’s largest U.S. partnership to date as the Melbourne-based company works to scale its presence in the U.S. market.
“Small groups and experiential travel are growing, and more Americans than ever before are looking for this style of travel,” said Leigh Barnes, president of the Americas at Intrepid.
