The move comes after Spirit’s CEO told staff to be prepared for job cuts as it reduces capacity to stay afloat.
Spirit Airlines plans to furlough 1,800 flight attendants — roughly one-third of its cabin crew members — as part of its efforts to cut costs during its second Chapter 11 bankruptcy.
“As we work to return Spirit to profitability, we face difficult decisions about our network, our fleet, and ultimately our workforce,” Spirit chief operating officer John Bendoraitis wrote in a note to flight attendants on Monday, which was seen by Skift.
