Expanding internationally would be another major change for Southwest as it adopts the business model of more traditional legacy carriers.
Southwest Airlines is starting discussions with pilots and flight attendants unions about an international expansion.
The carrier said in a statement that it is exploring what new international destinations it could serve with its Boeing 737 fleet.
