Hotels throw away hundreds, or even thousands, of unused soap bars and hygiene products daily. Now, planners and hotels are thinking of new ways to recycle these items for a good cause through corporate social responsibility initiatives on the tradeshow floor.

Showcasing its commitment to sustainability — one of five newly revealed brand pillars —The Venetian Resort provided Cvent’s CONNECT 2018 meeting attendees with a corporate social responsibility activity through the Clean the World initiative, a waste reduction program that recycles unused soap and bottled hygiene items discarded by hotel guests and delivers them to relief organizations around the country.

On a show floor table in The Sands Expo and Convention Center, Venetian created a “hygiene building station,” where boxes of products from the hotel’s over 7,000 suites were placed and in assembly-line like fashion. Each meeting goer took a plastic bag, grabbed soap, shampoo, body lotion and other unopened amenities and collectively built over 2,500 kits that then went to Las Vegas’ Catholic Charities.

The aim of the initiative: to provide access to better hygiene for vulnerable communities and education to make hand washing a lifelong habit.

For The Venetian Resort in Las Vegas, adding social responsibility and sustainability initiatives into meetings is a priority, according to Chandra Allison, senior vice president of sales.

“Clean the World is one of those partnerships in which we work with very closely in order to help give back to our community.”
