Officials say they expect the 100-millionth passenger using the airport this year to arrive Sunday at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport.
Airport spokesman Reese McCranie says in a written statement that accounting firm KPMG used statistical modeling and scheduled arrival and departure times to predict the milestone. McCranie says this is the first time a single airport will serve 100 million passengers in a calendar year.
Airport officials say they won’t release the specific flight time but expect it to arrive mid-morning on Sunday.
The airport plans to salute the passenger’s flight with a water cannon salute from fire engines. Atlanta Mayor Kasim Reed and other officials also plan to greet the passenger.
