JetBlue taketh (new fees for a first-checked bag) and JetBlue giveth (a rooftop space open to TrueBlue members and just regular folks) at T5 in JFK. The timing of the announcement one day a part wasn't an accident. That's marketing.
A day after launching new fare options, including a first-checked bag fee of up to $25, JetBlue opened an outdoor rooftop space at its T5 terminal at JFK Airport in New York that is open to all JetBlue ticket-holders once they clear security.
JetBlue says the outdoors area, which will have free Wi-Fi, food carts, a dog-walking area and views of the former TWA Terminal and the Manhattan skyline, “is the only post-security outdoor space accessible to all customers at a New York airport.”
Skift toured the space in early June. It isn’t massive, it will be breezy and it will provide a nice break from the hustle-bustle of a modern airport terminal.
The rooftop 4,046 square-foot space, which includes a green area with planters and aluminum furniture, will be open during the summer from 6 a.m. to 10 p.m. JetBlue’s business partners in developing the space included Gentler, Arup and Turner Construction Co.
Delta has a rooftop terrace at JFK but it is only open to frequent flyers.
