TripAdvisor Targets Brazil in Its First Latin American TV Advertising

Skift Take

TripAdvisor has worked out some of the kinks in its earlier TV ad campaigns and now is setting its sights on additional advertising in the U.S., France and Australia, and new ads in Brazil and the UK. Big potential market, Brazil.

While much of the travel industry turns its attention to the already big and burgeoning markets in Asia Pacific, especially China, there is a lot of activity by U.S. and European brands in Latin America coming into focus.

TripAdvisor announced that it has expanded its TV advertising campaign with a new set of advertisements in Brazil, and also the UK.

The Brazil and UK campaigns represent 14-year-old TripAdvisor's first TV ad campaigns anywhere in Latin America, and also the UK. TripAdvisor, though, has previously run ads elsewhere in Europe, including France.

Travel companies, from TripAdvisor to Booking.com, are keen on making inroads into the huge Brazilian travel market.

News of the TripAdvisor advertising blitz in Brazil follows the CheapOair's investment in a consolidator as a foundation for launching in Mexico and as a gateway to Latin America.

Brazil-based Hotel Urbano, the leading home-grown online travel agency in the country, plans on a huge raise of venture funding in the first quarter of 2015, building on a $50 million round in March 2014, and is setting its sights on an IPO in the next couple of years.

TripAdvisor's new advertisements in Brazil and the UK expand on a 2014 campaign in the U.S., Canada, France and Australia.

While the earlier advertisements focused on TripAdvisor's user reviews and trip-planning acumen, the latest ads tout TripAdvisor's hotel metasearch and booking capabilities, now that customers can book hotels within TripAdvisor apps using its Instant Booking feature.

"Plan, compare and book. Visit TripAdvisor today," the announcer states as the words "best price" appear.

TripAdvisor declined to detail how much it will be spending on its new TV campaign.
