Infographic: Which U.S. tourism boards have the most popular Facebook fan pages

Skift Take

Los Angeles is the first U.S. city tourism board to reach 1 million fans on Facebook, but it’s too early to tell if Likes, which don't always translate into purchases, will lead to an increase in incoming visitors.

City and tourism boards around the U.S. are beginning to leverage social media to promote a destination and connect with travelers in a way that was previously unimaginable with radio, print, and TV ads.

The Los Angeles Tourism & Convention Board became the first U.S. city tourism board to reach 1 million Facebook fans. The launch of its new website discoverLosAngeles.com in October 2012 played a part as its popularity grew by 1.70 percent in just the past two weeks. The biggest source of engagement on the page are the large colorful photographs featuring the skyline of the city.

The only city even close to LA is Las Vegas with 922, 776 fans. The second info graphic shows the the CVBs with the highest number of Facebook fans. Note that 8 out of the 10 are located on the ocean.
