Brand USA wants to double the number of incoming Indian tourists by 2016

The tourism campaign will try to increase the number of business travelers, but focus more heavily on Indian leisure travelers who are likely to spend more money than visitors from other nations.

Brand USA, the tourism marketing entity for promoting the US to the world, is looking at generating nearly 1.3 million arrivals from India in 2016.

The public-private entity will be undertaking various promotional campaigns in India focusing on the business and leisure travel segments to increase Indian arrivals in the US, which stood at 6.63 lakh in 2011.

According to the US Department of Commerce, 6,63,000 Indians visited the country in 2011, making it the 12th in the world in terms of arrivals to that country. However, they ranked 10th in terms of spending and spent USD 4.4 billion.
