French-owned Reunion Island targets high-end Indian tourists

Skift Take

Although much closer to Africa than India, the small island is hoping to attract wealthy Indian travelers to improve its tourism revenues and has started by hosting major road shows in Indian cities.

The latest entrant in the Indian niche tourism market, Reunion Island aims to tap the high-end visitor segment in the country. According to Pascal Viroleau, CEO, Reunion Island Tourism, “Reunion Island wants high-value, low-impact tourists from India. Over the next three years, we hope to see 3,000 Indian tourists visiting Reunion.”

The tourism board, which is represented by Iris Reps in India, conducted road shows in Chennai, Bengaluru and Delhi as well. Reunion Island is a French territory located in the Indian Ocean and about 200 kms on the south-west of Mauritius.
