Airbnb has been adept at partnering with brands that coincide with its vibe and Tesla certainly fits right in.

Electric car owners have a new potential pit stop: Airbnb rentals in California. Taking electric cars on the road just got a whole lot easier as Airbnb teamed with Tesla to cater to this new drive market.

Airbnb has announced a partnership with Tesla Motors, makers of electric cars, that will bring Tesla charging stations to some Airbnb properties around the world. According to Airbnb, Tesla has committed to installing charging stations at a minimum of 100 Airbnb homes. Following the August 20 announcement, more than 100 hosts expressed interest in the installations, officials said.

Airbnb created special wish list of properties equipped with Tesla charging stations. There are currently 12 properties on the list, ranging from $350 to $1,350 per night and all based in California, which is where both Airbnb and Tesla have their headquarters.

Hosts interested in adding a charging station to their homes can request one through Airbnb’s website. Tesla covers the cost of the station, yet the owner would have to pay for the installation, which can range from $200 to $900.

To be considered for a charging station, hosts must meet several criteria, including listing their entire home for rent, having more than five bookings and a 4+ rating as their average overall star rating.

Hosts who already have a Tesla charger must have the same above-ementioned rating to be eligible to be placed on a special wish list of Airbnb listings equipped with a Tesla charger. So far there is no Tesla charging station filter on the Airbnb site.

New Airbnb hosts can also apply to receive charging stations once they have met the above criteria. Additionally, new hosts that already have a charger will receive a $100 gift card after their first night of hosting and can also eventually request to be on the special wish list after meeting the above criteria for new hosts.

The announcement with Airbnb comes after Tesla’s unveiled a plan in May to build charging stations across the country. That makes the venture with Airbnb an expansion of Tesla’s Destination Charging program.
