Interesting to note is the almost zero correlation between what top local searches are on Google trends (more utility searches from locals) versus what tourists are checking into on Facebook in those same countries.

The same day Google is out with its 2012 trends, based on searches on its network, Facebook has come out with its trends for 2012, and our interest is in the most checked-in places around the globe.

In U.S., as the image above shows, it is what you would expect: Times Square in New York City, followed by Disneyland, and other tourist-friendly points of interest.
